To Marguerite & Pastor Milton Thomas, Sr., children, grand-children, and all family members.
I wish I had the words to express the deep sense of loss and hurt felt when I learned of Pastor Thomas’s passing on Easter Sunday. Pastor Thomas was my friend. Not only was he a community leader, visionary, colleague, activist, hard worker, organizer, communicator, and all around good, kind, considerate and generous person, but most importantly he was a Man of God. He loved people and was committed to the calling that the Lord had placed on his life. He truly fulfilled that promise and did it with love and devotion.
Pastor Thomas’s unyielding and infinite desire to do God’s work with kindness and love truly went above and beyond all expectations. He was truly one of a kind and it is our prayer that the sorrow you feel with his departure, will one day be comforted by knowing that your patriarch truly was loved and admired by people of all ethnicities, political affiliations and socio-economic status. His unique style and ability to capture the hearts of many made him a success. He would not take no for an answer. For his next generation, the gene you inherited will undoubtedly propel you to make a positive difference as he did.
On a personal note, I will miss the many phone calls I received from him saying we have a meeting for Shop with a Cop, or it’s time for the toy pick-up from the hospital, or we need to meet with the City about his dream for the Majestic Village Low Income Housing project and the Thomas Ministries Community Center of Aurora. If those were not enough, he would say it is time to pick-up and distribute the 800 turkeys and all the sides dishes for the Thomas Ministry Thanksgiving dinners. In additions there were calls regarding getting backpacks, bicycles, coats, toys, shoes, snacks, and clothing that needed to be distributed. And because Pastor Thomas did not embrace texting and emailing, I will miss him saying at these events and meetings that, “Malissa is my texter and my email.” It was a privilege to be so and I welcomed seeing Pastor Thomas at every opportunity to assist him. He was my friend!
To the Thomas family, we know your loved one’s departure will leave a huge void in your lives and hearts, as it has for many of us. It is our prayer however that you can take comfort in knowing that Pastor Thomas was loved, and he made a positive difference in the many lives he touched here on earth. May God’s grace, mercy and love strengthen each of you now and forever and please know our sincere thoughts and prayers are with you.
Faithfully submitted,
Malissa Murdock
