Deacon Charles Gray, Jr. was born November 18, 1941 to the parents of Charles and Stella M. Gray. He was the eldest of eight children, five boys and three girls. He was educated in Quincy Florida graduating from Carter Parromore High School in 1960. Shortly after his graduation he married his high school Sweetheart, Dorthia (Dorothy) Jones on November 11, 1961 in Bainbridge GA. He and Dorothy moved to Denver CO in August 1963 and to this union were born four boys; Charles III, Michael, Sylvester and Keith Gray. Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour at a young age, joining St. John AME Church and remained a member there until he moved to Denver, Colorado. After moving to Denver he united with Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Leon V. McGuire and was ordained as a Deacon in 1984. He remained faithful at Morning Star until his health failed. Charles was employed as a welder and construction worker for various companies until his retirement in 1994. Charles was a avid reader of his Bible. He read it daily. He enjoyed taking his family to the mountains to the sights, Seven Falls, Royal Gorge, Cave of The Winds and other sights. God called Deacon Gray home on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 9:44pm. He was proceeded in death by both parents, Charles and Stella Gray and brothers, Theodore, Elbert and Jerome Gray. He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of 55 yrs, Dorthia "Dorothy" Gray of Aurora, CO; daughter, Elizabeth Bennett of Tallahassee, FL; sons, Michael Gray, Sylvester Gray and Keith Gray, all of Aurora, CO; god son, John Ellis of Denver, CO; grandchildren; Michael (Sandy) Wells of Aurora, CO; Terrence Gray of Glendale, AZ; Darshawn, Kelvin and Shirl Keelie Gray, all of Aurora CO; god granddaughter, Quanda M. L. Allen of Aurora, CO; brother, Mitchell (Lillie) Gray of FL; sisters, Ada Pearl Gray, Del Marie (Luther) Duncan both of Tampa, FL and Rebecca (Norman) Moore of Quincy FL; great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
