The sun rose on the life of Mr. Frederick Barnes on December 2, 1932 in New York, New York when he was born to Wallace McMillan and Rosalind Barnes. The youngest of two children, Frederick had one sister, Beverly. As a child, he was always concerned with continuing his education. Educated in the private school system, he graduated from Academic Study of Music and Arts in New York City in June, 1951. He continued his education at New York City College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, graduating on July 1, 1956. He was given awards for working on Rotary at All State. Frederick proudly served his country in the United States Army from May 3, 1956 to November 1, 1963. He graduated from the United States Infantry Training School in the fall of 1963. His final rank was Captain, Rank 03. He was decorated with the Expert Infantry Badge. Frederick was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia and upon completion of his active duty, he received an Honorable Discharge from the Army and a grateful nation. Frederick was the loving father of five children, Krishnera, Cheryl, Luana, Geoffrey and Derrick. He was united in marriage with Janice Cordova-Barnes for the past twenty-eight years. An active member of the Optimist Club of Southeast Aurora since 1983, he was named "Optimist Arapahoe Valley Man of the Year" 1981-1982. Frederick was awarded the "Hamilton Management Corporation Supervisory Award" in 1975 while he was employed with that company. He also attained the "Three-Quarter Million Dollar Club" outstanding sales with that company in 1971. In 1972, he was a member of the "Half Million Dollar Club" outstanding sales with Hamilton. In 1984, he was given an Outstanding Sales Award with Allstate. In his free time, Frederick enjoyed sleeping, painting, reading and loved talking to people. He will be remembered by all his friends for his paintings and his love for baseball. He enjoyed big band music. Some of his favorites were Duke Ellington and Count Basie. A man of determination and strength, he tried to spare his family by covering up his illness. He was loved and will be deeply missed. The sun set on the life of Mr. Frederick Barnes on December 1, 2016 when he passed into eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Derrick. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janice M. Barnes of Aurora, CO; son, Geoffrey Barnes of Castle Rock, CO; daughters, Krishnera (Brad) Stevens of Stafford, VA, Cheryl Barnes of Harrisburg, RI and Luana (Rick) Hilke of Richmond, VA; sister, Beverly Barnes of New York, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and friends.
