Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Barbara Jean Alexander on September 22, 1928 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when she was born to Robert and Roberta Davenport. The oldest of six children, Barbara had one brother, Raymond and four sisters, Onita, Maxine, Lillie and Marcie. Educated in the public school system, she graduated from Douglas High School in Oklahoma City. On June 19, 1946, Barbara was united in marriage with Napoleon Alexander. To this union were born thirteen children, James, Floyd, Deborah, Jane, Dena, Terry, Bobby, David, Patrick, Kerry, Mark, John and Joseph. They remember, "Us kids and our Mom played softball at the park on the weekends, we had lots of fun and really, really enjoyed ourselves. Our Mom and Dad would cook Sunday dinners. The family took Sunday rides to Stapleton Airport to watch the airplanes take off and land." Her grandchildren, Tammy, Alonzo, Langston, Veronica, James Jr.,De'Nyce, Olivia, Daniel, Mark, Eric, Andrew, Annette, Terrence, Christopher, Dawn, Monica, Danielle, Austin, Monica, Natalie and Wesley, III remember that she loved to bake and would make pineapple upside down cake. She would hide Blue Bird juices under her bed, but would let them have as many as they wanted. They remember the red Ford truck their grandfather and grandmother would ride in, and sometimes would pick them up from school in that truck. She often took care of many of her grandchildren, and loved to take them with her shopping and out to eat. They will cherish the memories of her at their graduations, weddings, baby showers and other family events. Even when she had Alzheimer's disease, she enjoyed laughs and conversations with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A woman of faith, she was member of several parishes St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and St James Catholic Church. She devoted her life to taking care of her home and family. In her free time, she enjoyed family, friends, baking cakes and playing bingo. This caring, loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and grandmother was greatly loved and she will be deeply missed. The sun set on the life of Mrs. Barbara Jean Alexander on February 6, 2017 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest.
