Obituary of Carolyn G. Parks
Please share a memory of Carolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Carolyn G. Parks on October 29, 1927 in New London, Missouri when she was born to Floweerr and Lula Givens. The youngest of eight children, Carolyn had three brothers, Euphina, William and Norman and four sisters, Lorene, Charlene, Matilda and Helen. As a child, she was active, jumping rope, playing pick-up sticks and running through the neighborhood. She loved to travel with her family an would gather peaches to take home for the family to can. She received her formal education in the public school system and graduated from Douglas High School in Hannibal, MO, Class of 1946. Carolyn was united in marriage with the love of her life, Walter Parks in Omaha, Nebraska. His sister introduced them at church. The couple loved to travel whenever they could, which was hard sometimes because he stayed so busy with the railroad, but they always just enjoyed each other's company all of the time. No children were born to this union and Walter preceded her in death on October 30, 1977. A woman of deep faith in God, Carolyn was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Denver since 1974. She served the Lord and her church on the Usher's Board, Mission Circle, Pastor Courtesy and the Nursing Homes Committee. A Nurse Aide, she
most recently did Private Duty work, but was employed for years with University Hills Christian Campus. Everyone enjoyed working with her, but some would call her "old lady" because she was very straight forward when it came to work. In her free time, Carolyn enjoyed family, friends, traveling, bowling and going to the Rockies baseball games. She also loved to collect recipes and cook. Her best friend was the late Ms. Norma Winn. Carolyn was known for being a great, loyal friend. She was often heard to say, "Don't let your right know what your left is doing" , "Tell the truth" and "Give me my flowers while I can smell them". Her favorite colors were blue and white. She loved roses and really enjoyed listening to jazz, gospel and classical music. Carolyn was close to her many nieces and nephews. "She was the matriarch of the family who was truly our rock." Her beautiful smile, faith, kindness and love of life will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have shared a part of this lovely lady's life. To know Carolyn was to love her. The sun set on the life of Mrs. Carolyn G. Parks on March 17, 2017 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings. Those left to cherish her memory include nieces; Sandra Turner of VA, Jacqueline Goodwin of CA, Patricia Ford of MN and Flowerree Jackson of MO; nephew, William Jackson of CO and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rest in peace...Mrs. Carolyn
