Obituary of Doris Marie Hollands-Dickey
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Doris Marie Hollands-Dickey on October 6, 1963 in Colorado when she was born to Charles Edward Hollands and Dorothy Jean Marie Peoples. The oldest of eleven children, Doris had six brothers, W.A., Latha, Adrian, Charles, Russell and Norman and four sisters, Colleen, Sabrina, Cassandra and Jacque. As a child, she was always fighting to protect her siblings. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, fighting and was always smiling.
Educated in the public school system, Doris graduated from Manual High School, Class of 1985. On September 30, 1999, Doris was united in marriage with Robert Hayes Dickey, Jr. in Denver. The couple exchanged their vows at his home. The couple greatly enjoyed one another. To this union were born seven children, Robert, III, Tylaann, Branden, Alicia, Emmanuel, Dorice and Tori. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. The children remember her love for dancing, telling them "We can win" calling grand daughter, Ty'Lasha every day, listening to Al Green, Betty Wright and Isley Brothers and calling Aunt Joyce and Colleen.
In later years, her grandchildren, Joeshia, Tyla, Joshua, Jahiem, Joddy, Akella and Ty'Lasha were an added joy in her life. They remember calling "Grandma Doris or YaYa" on the phone alot. She kept all the snacks, bringing them to their houses and always had treats for them. A woman of faith, Doris was a member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church. A Hat Maker by profession, Doris was employed with the Imperial Hat Company on the assembly line. "She was a hard worker and dependable." In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, dancing, crocheting and her tobacco. Her best friends were Paula Richards, Dana Robinson, Sharon Britton and Doris Holiday. They loved her fighting spirit, dancing and cracking jokes. Her love, laughter and caring will be deeply missed by all who shared a part of Doris' life.
