1st grade student and lifelong friend. She was always my go-to person, loved me and I her always. She was so mild mannered but stern when need be. Always that infectious smile and soft understanding words. She was a true educator, even in and especially in the worst part of a racially divided nation and community, Mrs. Dawson was strong and the very best at what she did. A person knows when they meet another person who has a vision and direction, and her life wasn't wasted. I owe her more than I could ever repay. She took this little, only child white boy under her wing, along with so many others and gave them focus and a desire to learn and thrive. She never passed up an opportunity to speak to me in public in later years and urged that I bring my children and family by her home to visit many times, and God how I wish I had done that more often.
I love you Ms. Dawson... And she knew it... ❤️
