Obituary of Melodene Kelly
Please share a memory of Melodene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Ms. Melodene Kelly on November 15, 1951 in Denver, Colorado when she was born to Cam Dethro Alexander and Elenor Ford-Alexander. The third of five children, Melodene had two brothers, Tony and James and two sisters, Jolynn and Diane. A mischevious tomboy, she could usually talk her friends into anything. Educated in the public school system, she graduated from Manual High School in Denver. At eighteen, she was a Miss Black Denver Pagent contestant.
On September 14, 1974, Melodene was united in marriage with Irving "Butch" Karl Kelly whom she met at Sweets Barber Shop. The couple were best friends and always focused on family and fun. To this union was born one beautiful daughter, Alaysha Nakeya. She recalls having so many fond and special memories of her mom. "Mom was such an amazing person and always took time to create extraordinary moments for us. One of the most sentimental times were our Saturdays together. She loved going shopping and to the movies at the Buckingham Mall. We would do a little shopping, eat at Furr's and then go to the movies."
A woman of many talents, Melodene was an entrepreneur and small business owner. She was a member of the Red Hatters. She was previously employed as an office manager and as a flight attendant with United Airlines for over 13 years (the third black flight attendant in the nation). She was remembered for being a joy to travel with, her love for shopping and always speaking what was on her mind and in her heart. In her free time, Melodene enjoyed time with family and friends, shopping, painting art and watching movies, especially comedies. Her best friends, Brunette Hatch, Carolyn "Angel" Kingsley and Carlen Galloway loved her sense of humor, loyalty and generosity. Her favorite colors were black and red. She loved roses and most enjoyed Soul music. Melodene's most lasting impression on everyone was her generosity. Her love, laughter, kindness and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to share a part of this beautiful lady's life. To know her was to love her.
The sun set on the life of Ms. Melodene Kelly on June 15, 2017 when she passed into eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her parents and both brothers. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Alaysha Kelly; sisters, Jolynn Harris and Diane Williams, all of Denver, CO; adopted daughter, Lucille (Dane) Washington; loved one, Collette Williams; nieces, Camille Cook and Jessica Griffin; beloved dogs, Spike, Chanel and Dexter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
