Obituary of Carroll Jones
Please share a memory of Carroll to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carroll Jones was born on May 15, 1932 in Holly Springs, Mississippi to Lillian Collins Jones. He was one of five children that included one brother and three sisters. Carroll's siblings fondly remember him as being kind, generous and developing a strong relationship with God during his childhood.
Carroll attended Lincoln High School in East St. Louis. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served for twenty years, retiring in 1971. Once he retired from the military, he relocated to Denver, Colorado where he began working for UPS. He worked for UPS for 20 years and developed many great friendships. His reputation preceded him as his sons would later befriend colleagues that remembered him and spoke fondly of crossing paths with him.
Jones or "Pops", as he was called by family and friends, enjoyed visiting with his good friends at Skyland Recreation Center and the Holly Shopping Center where he played cards and dominos and caught up on what was happening in the neighborhood with his buddies. He also enjoyed playing solitaire on his computer and listening to oldies but goodies music, occasionally producing a disc of his favorite music. He loved watching all sports with his last moments spent watching the Broncos. His greatest enjoyment and love was his family whom he enjoyed spending time and talking on the phone with.
Jones departed this earth on Sunday, September 17, 2017 and was preceded in death by his mother, one brother Fredrick Wanye Dew and two sisters Ora Mae Harper and Sharon Elaine Johnson. Leaving to cherish his memory are his loving wife Martha, his sister Cynthia Crawford (St. Louis, Missouri) four sons, Carl (Austin, Texas), James, Andre and Michael, (Denver, Colorado) three daughters Suzette Young (Pflugerville, TX) Carnella Sykes (Dallas, Texas) and Carla Lester (Bowie, Maryland), five in-laws; Anna Weaver, Shirley Campbell, Betty Martin (Lexington, Kentucky), Emma Orrock (Florida), Randall Coffey (Louisville, Kentucky), nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
