Obituary of Jennie Ann Walker
Please share a memory of Jennie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Ms. Jennie Ann Walker on May 15, 1936 in Culleoka, Tennessee when she was born to Andrew Robinson and Rose Mary Wells. The youngest of two children, Jennie had one brother, Clayton Andrew. She was a spunky and loving child. Educated in the public school system, Jennie graduated from Carver Smith High School in Culleoka.
Jennie was first united in marriage with Percy Stribling, Sr. in Denver, Colorado. To this union were born two children, Percy, Jr. and Pricillia. The marriage was later dissolved. Additionally she was the mother of two children, Douglas and Rupert. Jennie was later united in marriage with Edward Walker whom she met at work in a club in Denver. He remembers, "She was a hard working, supportive wife that loved me even when I was wrong." She was a loving and devoted mother. The children remember, "Mom listening to and singing with Whitney Houston and Billy Ocean and others. She always worked 2 and sometimes 3 jobs to get us by. In her youth, Mom loved to street drag race and she was great at it!" Her grandchildren, Nakisha, Cheriesha, Khadijah, Lenny, Damion, Mustafah, Malyk, Ni'Eam, Khasai, Ajai'Rai, Akiyah, Levi and Damoni remember "Granny was the glue in our life. We never had to go to daycare/babysitters. She was our caregiver. She taught us to cook, bake and stand up for ourselves."
By profession a cook and visiting nurse, Jennie was last employed with Embassy Suites in the position of a sous chef. She was known for dedication, hard work and excellence. In her free time, she enjoyed family, friends, crocheting and word search puzzles. Her best friends were the late Magnolia Brown and Ms. Alice McDade. They will always remember her cooking, baking, driving skills and sense of humor. It's hard not to think of Jennie when we hear Donna Summers sing, "She works hard for her money 8 days a week." She worked hard all her life. To know Jennie was to love her and she will be greatly missed.
