The sun rose on the life of Ms. Lucille Hazel on May 27, 1931 in Ashton, Alabama when she was born to Rebecca Tiller and Curtis Thomas. She later had a younger sister, Elizabeth. Lucille was raised in a Christian home as her mother, Rebecca was very devout and active in their home church. Lucille moved to Newark, New Jersey with her family as a teenager. When she was 19 years old, she married Carl Hazel, an Air Force Serviceman. She traveled throughout the U.S. and overseas as a military wife and had five children, Carl, Jr., Patricia, Rebecca, William, and Karen. She later had her sixth child, Jeffrey
in 1965. Sadly she lost her son William on September 17, 1980. In later years, her eleven grandchildren, Felicia, Louis, Lisa, Latonia, Jonnell, Donnell, James, Aurora, Christopher, Jennifer, and Julius, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren were a special source of joy in her life. Lucille worked for the Denver Housing Authority and Coors Brewery in Golden. She retired at age 62 from the City and County of Denver, where she ended her career as a Microfilm Technician for Denver General Hospital. Lucille Hazel was a hard working mother and a compassionate friend. She was always willing to help someone in need. In her retirement years, she lived a modest and humble life. Her home at 3090 Cook Street was the setting of many holiday gatherings and family celebrations, and for over 40 years her children knew that they could always come back home. Lucille's address in Denver will forever be remembered with a smile. Her family, co-workers and friends will always remember her kindness. She will live on eternally in all our memories.
