Obituary of Valerie Ranette Mitchell

Valerie Ranette Banks Mitchell, daughter of Randall Banks, Sr & Barbara D. Banks was born on Saturday, June 18, 1960 at St. Catherine's Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana and passed away on Saturday December 9, 2017. Valerie was way beyond her years, very independent. She loved to work for whatever she needed or wanted. "Captain Crunch Cereal made a lot of money off her." Valerie went to school in East Chicago, IN. Then her parents bought their first home in Hammond, IN where she completed and graduated from Hammond High School, Class of 1978. She always had a BIG heart for people so she decided to go study nursing at Vincennes University in Vincennes. She graduated with her LPN. She worked at St. Catherine Hospital where she was born. There she met her late husband Levell Mitchell. There were no children born to this union. Levell died at the young age of 45. Valerie never recovered. She remained a widow with plenty of family surrounding her until her death. Valerie was the loving and devoted aunt and godmother to Valerie and Lauren. She managed at many companies over the years. She suffered many surgeries and illnesses but the light of God continued to shine upon her. She no longer could work but she was a fighter strong and mighty. Valerie is preceded in death by her father, husband and brother, Everett B. Banks. She leaves behind her mother, Barbara D. Banks; sister, Rhonda G. (Rondell) Swope; brothers, Randall (Claudia) Banks, Jr., Brian A. Banks, Dennis A. Banks and Jamar Banks adopted brother, Melvin (Penny) Pennington; special friend, LaMonte Weddle; a host of nieces and nephews along with many friends.
