Obituary of Jessie Boston
Please share a memory of Jessie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Jessie Boston on September 10, 1928 in Marlin, Texas when she was born to Jesse A. and Alice Anderson. The second of six children, Jessie had three brothers, Wilford, Rubin and James and two sisters, Annie and Willie. A hard working child, Jessie was always taking care of her siblings. From an early age, she enjoyed hair styling. Educated in the public school system, Jessie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Marlin.
In 1960, Jessie was united in marriage with Charlie Smoos in Plainview, Texas. The couple exchanged their vows before a Justice of the Peace. The marriage lasted 22 years. In 1982, she was united in marriage with Samuel Boston in Denver, Colorado before a Justice of the Peace. The marriage lasted 10 years. She was the loving and devoted mother of one son, Lonnie. He remembers her as "outgoing, loving, strict and caring". In later years her grandchildren, Jenna, Lorenzo, Loretta, Trandel, Lonnie and Tina were an added source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her "Grandma Jessie" or "Mama" and remember cooking, throwing their birthday parties, playing bingo and watching movies in bed with them.
A woman of faith, Jessie was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Denver for 15 years. She served the Lord and her church in the choir. By profession, Jessie was a hairdresser and a housekeeper. She was last employed with Little Sisters of the Poor. She worked the longest at St. Luke's Hospital. She was known for excellent work and being nice to talk to. In her free time, Jessie enjoyed family, friends, yard work and playing cards.
Her best friends were Ms. Alice, Lela Allen, Maudie Braxton and Mary Pittman. She was known for her yard work and her cleanliness in her home and life. Her favorite flowers were red roses and she most enjoyed listening to gospel music. Her love, kindness and concern for her family will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have shared a part of her life. To know Jessie was to love her.
The sun set on the life of Mrs. Jessie Boston on April 6, 2018 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Lonnie Allen of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Rest in peace....Mrs. Jessie
