The Life and Legacy of Our Angel, Marjorie “Margie” Williams
On January 24, 1923, the world became a little bit brighter as it was graced with the arrival of Marjorie Williams. Marjorie, affectionately called “Margie” by those who knew and loved her, was born to Curtis and Lillian Henderson in Henderson, Texas. From the very first moment her parents laid eyes on her, Marjorie was a bright light to their lives. In addition to her parents, Marjorie was blessed to be surrounded by the love of many family members. She was the second oldest of five children born to the family: Lovell Smith, Margaret Harvey, Vera Vaughn and Levy Smith. As a child, Marjorie was exceptionally bright, articulate, and quite curious.
Continuing on the path of academic excellence, Marjorie completed her secondary education, finishing at the top of her class at Antioch High School, in Henderson, Texas. Her dedication and commitment to learning earned her the honor of graduating as the class Valedictorian. Shortly after graduating from high school, Marjorie relocated to Denver, Colorado in hopes of discovering more opportunities than what Texas had to offer. It didn’t take long for her to grab hold of what Colorado had in store. She obtained employment right away, ultimately retiring with the Denver Police Department. One of her colleagues who would also turn into one of her life-long friends, Rosalee, introduced Marjorie to her brother, Wilbur Thirkield Williams. Within no time, their beautiful love story began to unfold and on October 1, 1949 the two were united in holy matrimony.
As a young couple, Marjorie and Wilbur shared many happy moments together. Of those moments, one of their proudest memories was the delightful blessing of bringing their two amazing children, Leroy and Linda Williams, into this world. Marjorie understood the importance of
providing a good foundation for her children and made it her purpose to ensure that they knew that they were safe, supported and cherished at all times. From being in the kitchen with their mom learning how to cook, sharing their Christmas wish list and jumping up with excitement and anticipation of what was waiting for them under the Christmas tree, to receiving the very first sewing machine Marjorie purchased for her daughter Linda, her children will always remember how she made life for them special in her authentic way.
Marjorie professed her love for the Lord at an early age and continued over the course of her life, growing and developing her own relationship with God. An avid woman of faith, Marjorie joined Heritage Christian Center in 1998 under the pastoral leadership of the late Bishop Dennis Leonard. When Heritage transitioned to Potter’s House of Denver, Marjorie remained a faithful member. She served as an Intercessor and was a powerful prayer warrior. If you ever needed someone to pray, Marjorie surely was one that you could guarantee knew how to get a prayer through to God. Marjorie remained a dedicated member, even as her health began to fail her. She served faithfully for nearly 23 years.
One of Marjorie’s greatest joys was being a grandmother to her grandchildren: Kanika, Irvin, Tamaria, Lynette, and Jamie. She had a very special way of caring for each one of them in her own unique way. From a trip to The Promised Land, to helping one of her grandchildren learn how to drive a stick shift, to her famous and delicious pancakes and hot water cornbread, to teaching each of them how to be resourceful, down to the countless times that she woke them up in her fervent prayer time as she anointed their heads in oil; her grandkids have many fond memories of times spent laughing, and learning, but most of all sharing in the love that ran deep in all of their interactions with her. Marjorie had a strong love for children, and as a childcare provider she also became a grandmother figure for many foster children, children in the neighborhood, her grandnieces and nephews and many other children in the family.
In her personal life, Marjorie was referred to as The Commander in Chief due to her strong independence, strength, determination, reliability, diligence, relentlessness and persevering spirit. One of the lasting impacts that she will always be remembered for is her belief that “You can have what you say!” Not only did she believe this, but she assured her children and grandchildren understood the power and truth behind it. Marjorie loved traveling and gardening. Her favorite colors were green, gold and orange, and she loved Geraniums, Carnations and Petunias. Marjorie loved attending Bible study and watching Christian networks on television; TBN being her most enjoyable. Her favorite passage of scripture was Psalm 91.
A woman of great care and compassion, Marjorie would often check in with her many friends and would not hesitate to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her close friends, Ernestine, Marcella, Ola Mae, Rosalee and Vivian will always remember her for her generosity, dependability, faithfulness, her servant heart and her love for God.
On November 8, 2020, the Lord saw fit to call Marjorie from labor to reward, departing this life and entering into the warm embrace of the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Leroy (Janice) Williams of Denver, CO; her daughter, Linda Jackson of Atlanta, GA; sister, Vera Vaughn of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Kanika (Stephen) Bailey, and Lynette McKinney of Atlanta, GA; Tamaria (Quinton) Allen of Upper Marlboro, MD, Jamie Williams of Madrid, Spain and Irvin Banks of Richmond, VA; great grandchildren, Myles Allen and Austin Allen of Upper Marlboro, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
While our hearts are saddened in losing her, we recognize that our loss is heaven’s gain and God needed his faithful servant most. We thank God that our world was made better for having this wonderful Wife, Mother, Sister, Daughter, Grandmother, and all the other roles she filled in our lives. We recognize that a great deal of our continued protection, mercy and blessings are attributed to her prayers, love and blessings over each of our lives. She will forever remain in our hearts and memories. Margie gave this world, her family and friends 97 fantastic years and we are forever grateful for this. Heaven has gained a faithful, dedicated, caring and truly special Angel!
Well done thou good and faithful servant, well done. Take your well deserved rest!
