Bro. Benny was one of the first Members to welcome, Rev. & Mrs. Tucker and our three girls, Stephanie, Cheryl and Yolanda, to pastor Spottswood AME Zion Church in 1977. We fell in Love with Bro. Benny. He was very much supportive to Rev. Tucker's Ministry at Spottswood. He was the best Musician we had ever had, in pastoring other AME Zion Churches. We could always count on Bro. Benny to be at the piano every Sunday. I joined the choir and I learned so much about singing, harmonizing. He was a perfectionist when it came to the choir singing. One of the many things we loved about Bro. Benny was his cooking. He was truly a good cook. He taught me how to make a real tasty Meatloaf by adding Sausage to the regular hamberger meat, and I still cook meatloaf that way. It is so good!!! Another thing I remember about Bro. Benny was his caring and kind heart to everyone that he came in contact with. I don't ever remember him complaining about anything. He always had a smile on his face. I remember when we got transferred by the Bishop to Phoenix Arizona to plant a new AME Zion Church, Bro. Benny volunteered to come to Phoenix and help us start a Choir. I remember we were rehearsing, about 10 of us singing. We thought we were really singing Good. Bro. Benny was listening to us, and when we finished, he said to us"Y'all sound like Cats singing on The Wall." Bro. Benny worked really hard with our choir every week for about a month, until he accomplished what he wanted for the Choir. He was a real perfectionist. We thank God for all that he did for Spottswood, Fisher Chapel and Leaked Temple for his Music Ministry. I am sure he is in Heaven with the Angelic Choir, playing the Piano. God Bless you, Bro. Benny's Family. We will continue to keep you in our prayers. May GOD comfort, strengthen and give you peace in the days ahead as you remember your Beloved Benny. Remember, IT IS BETTER TO HAVE LOVED AND LOST, THAN NOT TO HAVE LOVED AT ALL. We Love you all

We love you Uncle Benny, and you will be missed so very much. I’m grateful to God for the memories of unconditional love, laughter, and music; and a graciousness that only a man of God could have!
You are with your brothers now, and I know you all have the Angels singing and dancing with your music! You will ALWAYS be in my heart!

Uncle Benny was a very special person to me. I learned singing and music from him during our years at Spottswood AME Zion Church. There are soooo many memories of Uncle Benny but one thing that carried on in me is that he didn't play when it came to his music!!! I remember times if you didn't sing the right note he would get mad and bang on that piano LOL!!! I also remember him coming to Phoenix to spend time with us (The Tucker Family) and again showed us how much music meant to him. I accredited my years of singing and directing choirs to my beloved Uncle Benny. There will never be another. He will truly be missed!!! RIH Uncle Benny I will always love you.

Uncle Benny, you will be missed! I will always remember bowling with you when I was younger and the fabulous birthday parties you always threw for yourself. I will remember the way you played the piano and your great smile, but most of all I will remember what a great man and Uncle you were and that you lived your life with integrity.
Love, your Niece Lori

Bowling was one of his passions. We attempted to partisapate in a league one year, however I was the weakest link. We will continue to pray for the family.
Be Blessed

James “Uncle Benny” Parsons, there are fewer than more opportunities to have steady, stern Christian men in our lives, but you are one of them. Your compassion for music was shared unselfishly through teaching and performing. There will never be another Uncle Benny! It goes without saying that you will be in our thoughts and missed daily. While our hearts are heavy, there is happiness in the blessings that you have given us over the years. We honor your life and look forward to seeing you play the marvelous ivory keys in heaven.
Much love and God bless to the Parson’s and Leake Memorial Methodist Church family,

Bro.Jim was an inspiration and a living lesson on how to make the most out of life at any age. He was the most accomplished musician I had ever known. His dedication to our church was amazing. We thank God for him and will remember him always. His video is still on YouTube under James Parson 90th birthday celebration. I love and condolences go out to the family. Tony and Carolyn Phillips

Resolution & Memory form Leake Memorial Church
On this past 22nd Day of December 2020, of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ushered our Brother, Mentor, Maestro James Benton (Uncle Benny) (Jim) Parsons home to glory. Be it resolved that Brother Jim Parsons is now a resident and member of the Heavenly Congregation. Where God Reigns Supreme, Jesus Is Lord, and the Power of the Holy Spirit remains in full effect. Brother Jim Parsons is a member in good standing of Leake Memorial Church, where his smile and his wit reflected his love for everyone around him, and above all, Brother James Parsons was one of the most dedicated servants of the Lord, because no matter where, when, or the occasion, if he said he was going to be there, he was usually there waiting on everyone else to arrive. Let it be resolved that Brother Jim Parsons demonstrated Faith, Hope, and Love that is pleasing to God. (1 Corinthians 13:13) and he emulated love for family, love for church, and an incomparable love for music. He also knew that God is God, and that He is God all by Himself. So, let it also be resolved that Bro Jim Parsons was not one to just hear the Word, but he was one that lived and advocated the Word before others. (James 1:22) Being a member of Leake Memorial Church means that he has helped to pave the way, for others to continue what God has put in motion as Leake Memorial Church, and as one of the founding members of Leake, Brother James B. Parsons has become a part of the historic journals of the Leake Memorial Church, he will truly be missed, and he will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. God bless and keep you Brother James Benton (Uncle Benny) (Jim) Parsons, you’re home now, and we’re all looking forward to seeing, and hearing you play the 88’s for that heavenly choir throughout eternity, see you after a while!
May God Be Praised!
The Leake Memorial Church Family,
Elder John M. Conway III. Pastor & First Lady Renee Conway

To my family:
Truly my heart aches at the passing of Uncle Benny. My encounters with him were few, but each meant so much to me. I pray that the Lord God will comfort each family member and give you peace. Uncle Benny's memory is a blessing.
"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die" (John 11:25-26 KJV).
