Marlon Johnson

Obituary of Marlon Johnson

Marlon “Mike” Johnson was born September 2, 1958 at Provident Hospital on the Southside of Chicago, Illinois. He was the third child of Marvin and Pauline Johnson. Because his older brother could not pronounce Marlon he was also affectionately known as “Mike” by his family and friends. Marlon grew up in the garden community of Morgan Park on Chicago’s south side where he was proud to let anyone know that he was a Morgan Parker. Marlon was a happy child that kept his parents on their toes but he was a good student that played baseball at Ada Park every summer, participated in cub and boy scouts. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young boy and was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. Marlon attended John D. Shoop Elementary school and went on to Morgan Park High School where he was on the wrestling team, swim team and the marching band and he graduated in 1976. While in high school, Mike hosted a talent show that still rings memorable with those that were there, with his classmate “Flembone” where they were “Elton” and “John”. Marlon attended Texas Southern University then enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1977. After being discharged, he returned to Chicago where he held various jobs including Merrill Lynch, Sy Lowe & Son Pest Control, & Coca-Cola. In July of 1985 Marlon became a father to the light of his life Tiffany Monique Johnson. After it was decided that he needed a change of pace, Marlon relocated to Aurora, Colorado where he also held a number of jobs which included Quark, AT&T and lastly Kaiser as a Surgical Tech. Marlon always worked hard and took pride in being a dedicated worker. In 2004 he met the love of his life Yolanda Churchill from which turned into resounding wedding bells on July 13,2007. Marlon will always be remembered for his great personality and sense of humor. Marlon loved music, comedy, Chicago Sports Teams, Chicago food and last but DEFINITELY not least, his family. His sense of humor, laugh, honesty, thoughtfulness are all things that will be greatly missed. On 2/25/21, Marlon peacefully transitioned into the arms of the Lord where he was welcomed by his uncle Richard, grandmother Dollie Mae Shelby (affectionately known as Big Mama), father Marvin, his nephews Kevin Deon & Martell, and his sister-in-law Latonia. He leaves behind to mourn: his loving wife Yolanda Johnson of Aurora, CO; his mother Pauline Johnson of Chicago, IL; daughter Tiffany Johnson of Chicago, IL; step-daughters Jaenaya Churchill & Marquita Hale, brother Kevin Johnson (Linda) of Aurora, CO, sister LaDonna Wormley (Keenan) of Chicago, IL; a SPECIAL niece Keyonna Payton (Gregory) of Chicago, IL, Tennille Jones of Chicago, IL; Grandchildren Nehemiah, Curtis, Jadenay, Thaddeus & Titus of Aurora, CO & Kaniyah Mayes of Chicago, IL.
