Obituary of Thomas Taylor Hill

(Founder and Owner of the formally House of Hills Mortuary that was located at 2531 Ogden St. in Denver.) Thomas Taylor Hill took his leave on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Rockdale Piedmont Hospital in Conyers, Georgia and is now at peace with his maker. Thomas was the eight out of ten children. He was born on February 19, 1943, in Anderson, South Carolina to the late David F. Hill, Sr. and Leda L. Jones Hill. In 1947 the family moved to Brooklyn, New York. Thomas was baptized at an early age and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He was involved in many activities they had for the young people at the church. Thomas attended Wingate High School in Brooklyn where he was a member of the track team and they competed in the Penn relays every year. Thomas graduated from there in 1971. During his summer breaks, he was a lifeguard at Jones Beach in Brooklyn. Thomas enlisted in the US Army after graduation, and in 1966 he relocated to Denver, Colorado where he met and married the love of his life Doris Black. To this union two sons were born Thomas T. Hill, III and David Tyrone Hill. Thomas graduated from Metropolitan State College in 1970 and was the first graduating class. After graduation he went back to New York and followed along his siblings to mortuary school. Thomas graduated from American Academy McAllister Institute. In 1972 he purchased Grandberry Mortuary, which was later named House of Hills, Inc. and in 1982 he sold the mortuary. He enjoyed attending the National Funeral Directors Conventions. Thomas was a member and first president of Northeast Denver Optimist Club, a Mason, member of the Top Hatters Club, and a past member of the Esquire Club. He loved fishing and sports, with baseball being his favorite along with music of all types, especially jazz. He was a collector of music. This loving and caring man will be deeply missed by all the lives he touched on this side. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, sister, A. Pamela Hill; brothers, David F. Hill, Jr., George B. Hill, and J. Ralph Hill; and granddaughter, Kanitra M. Hill. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Doris Hill of Conyers, GA; sons, Pastor Thomas T. (Athena) Hill and David T. Hill, Sr. both of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Katrina M. Hill of Ft. Worth, TX; Thomas T. Hill, IV of ND, Justin and Jordan Hill both of Denver, CO; Endia Rivera of GA, Ethan Rollins of Denver, CO; David T. Hill, Jr. and Darius A. Hill both of GA; and Sydney Daniels of Kansas City, KS; brother, Andrew E. Hill of Brooklyn, NY; sisters, Erma H. Long of Washington DC; Greta L. Jenkins of NY; Lois Hill-Braxton of MD; and Leda K. Hill of NY; sister in laws, Rhoda and Patricia Hill both of NY; and Pastor Jewel (Manual) Johnson of Aurora, CO; brother in laws, George L. (Alma) Black of TX; William E. (Kay) Henderson of Aurora, CO; and Johnny (Terri) Henderson of Denver, CO; 8 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
