Obituary of Leondra Ruth Johnson
Please share a memory of Leondra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life for Leondra Ruth Johnson affectionately called “Lee” on July 18, 1960, in Los Angeles, California when she was born to Oscar Webb, Sr. and Kathryn (Webb) Shannon. She was the third out of five children born to this union. Leondra had three brothers, Gary, Oscar, and Nathaniel “Nene” and one sister, Lesa. As a child, she was always a chubby happy baby. Her siblings remember when she survived a car crash at the age of three years old.
Educated in the public school system, she graduated from Dos Pueblos High School in Santa Barbara, California. In high school, Leondra was very outgoing and involved with the Black Student Alliance. She later continued her education at the Community College of Denver.
She was the proud and devoted mother of one daughter, Zhivonne Polk whom she was blessed with alongside Gary Polk. Zhivonne was the apple of her mother’s eye. She was so happy to have a baby girl that she called by many nicknames such as, “Snook”, “Snook-Butt”, or “Momma’s Pudding”. They did everything together from concerts, traveling, trying different restaurants,
to 8-hour shopping trips.
Leondra married Jerome Johnson in 1986, and they later remarried on her birthday July 18, 2007. Jerome remembers them attending jazz concerts along with the Winter Park Jazz Festival, and trips to celebrate their anniversary in New Orleans and Las Vegas.
Her son in law Jeffery aka “Jeff” remembers how she always wanted him to be her son and was so happy when him and Zhivonne started dating and eventually got married. She always asked for grandkids, which she soon received after they were married. She was the proud grandmother of Zephaniah “Putter”, Jeffery II “Pooper”, and Willow “Putter-two”. She loved attending their activities and buying them junk food that she knew their parents wouldn’t let them have. When they would spend the night, she enjoyed playing games, watching movies, going to McDonalds for dinner, and cooking a big waffle breakfast in the morning.
Leondra was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Christ Jesus under the leadership of Pastor Paul & Evangelist Dallas Burleson. She loved cooking meals for the Consolers for Christ Ministry. She was also an honoree and a participant in the non-profit organization “Dancing with the Breast Cancer Stars” which was founded by Mrs. Jackie Wesley.
By profession, she was an Administrative and Technical Support Operator for Comcast Communications in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Leondra also previously worked for Amoco Oil, Uncover Company, and Comcast “QC2”. Her co-workers will remember her for being a hard worker, working two jobs and overtime. She was well known for her delicious potluck dishes, amazing phone voice, and being motherly where she earned the name “Momma Lee”.
In her free time, she enjoyed cooking huge spreads, traveling, spending time with family, and going to concerts. Her closest friends Rene Wilson, and Karla Russell will remember her for her fun-loving personality and her ability to make them laugh with her quick wit.
Her favorite color was red, she loved red roses, and her favorite dessert was chocolate cake with chocolate icing.
Leondra was a gracious woman who loved the Lord. Her daughter and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she always supported them in everything. She was truly a celebrater and loved to celebrate all achievements. She was very festive and always celebrating every occasion with great decorations and delicious food.
This sweet, loving, kind, caring, supportive, God-fearing, and beautiful lady will be deeply missed. To know Leondra, was to love her.
