Obituary of Irma Jean Hines

Please share a memory of Irma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irma Jean Hines, a cherished wife, sister, and friend, passed away on May 17, 2024, at Denver Hospice. She was born on January 6, 1950, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Marvin Thomas and Abby Lee, who preceded her in death. Irma Jean was the eldest of two children and shared a special bond with her brother Cleophus. As a child, Irma Jean had a playful spirit and adored her cat. She created countless cherished memories with her best friend, Alice Richardson. One memorable moment involved a mischievous act of cutting a cake baked by Mrs. Skeleton and cleverly covering it with icing, bringing smiles to those who remember. Irma Jean received her education at EJ Campbell in Nacogdoches, Texas. Later in life, she met the love of her life, Tommy Hines, in Texas. They shared a beautiful journey together, camping and traveling, especially with Tommy's two sons, Marlone and Tommie, who adored Irma. Both sons preceded her in death. Irma Jean dedicated 25 years of her life working for the State of Colorado at the unemployment office. Outside of work, she enjoyed shopping with her close friend Cece and pampering herself with nail appointments. Her best friends, Alice Faye Richardson and Betty Hines, were sources of love and support throughout her life. Irma Jean will be remembered for her love, kindness, infectious laughter, and unwavering faith in God. Her vibrant personality was reflected in her favorite color, yellow, and her favorite flowers, yellow roses, and sunflowers. R&B and gospel music, especially the soulful tunes of Vandross, brought her comfort and inspiration. Irma Jean's legacy lies in her profound love for family, life, and friends. She had a remarkable sense of style, always elegantly dressed, even during challenging times. Dancing was one of her passions, and she would often exclaim, "Tommy had to take me off the table!" Her capacity to love and her zest for life were boundless. Irma Jean cherished phone conversations with friends, expressing her happiness and sharing the details of her day. Cooking was another expression of her love, and her dressing was a specialty dish every year, especially for her partner Tommy Hines. Irma Jean is survived by her loving partner, Tommy Hines, her brother Cleophus and wife Faye Thomas, and brothers Verna Cole and Mervyn Thomas Junior. Her niece, Octavia Yolonda Thomas, preceded her in death. Her presence will forever be felt in the hearts of her family and friends. The family stayed by her side until she peacefully passed away. She left this world filled with joy, dancing, and singing, surrounded by loved ones, including her beloved partner, Tommy, her loyal nephew Pernell and wife Rhonda, niece Twyla and husband Eddie, as well as cousin Robert and other close friends and family. In this time of grieving, let us remember Irma Jean Hines as a shining example of love, faith, and joy. Her memory will be cherished always. Rest in peace, dear Irma Jean.
