Patricia A. George Obituary

Patricia A. George was born August 16, 1954, in Bremerhaven, Germany, to Garland and Dorothy Mae Dotson Alexander. She was called home to be with the Lord at her residence in Aurora, Colorado, on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Patricia lived most of her life in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended public schools in New Orleans, Louisiana, graduating from McDonough 35 Senior High School. She attended the University of New Orleans and Charity Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her degree before obtaining her license as a Registered Nurse.

Throughout her life, Patricia was immersed in the Christian Faith, studying, teaching, singing, and proclaiming the Gospel through word and song. An excellent student in school, Patricia also enjoyed participating in many extracurricular activities, honing her musical talent through the school talent show, operetta, and drill team. She grew up as a member of St. Phillip the Apostle and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Churches in New Orleans, and she later united with the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in New Orleans and was baptized by the Rev. Dr. Lawrence E. Landrum Jr. She was a Director of the Youth Choir, the Radio Choir, and the mass choir. She also taught Sunday School and actively supported many of the ministries of the Church.

Her dedication to Christian education and music led her to use her Spiritual Gifts in ministries at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Life Center Cathedral, Mount Hermon Baptist Church, and Hosanna Fellowship Church—all in the Greater New Orleans area.

Patricia relocated to Denver, Colorado, in search of opportunities to continue her work in the ministry and in the nursing profession. Soon after moving to Denver, she joined The Potter’s House, where she launched Our Journey of Hope, a biblically based cancer care ministry. Later, she united with Restoration Christian Fellowship in Aurora, Colorado.

As an Elder at Restoration Christian Fellowship, Patricia provided leadership for the Health & Wellness and the Our Journey of Hope ministries. She also served on the Credentialing Team, the Season Saints Praise Team, the Prayer Team, the Elder Ministry, and the Preaching Team. She completed the John C. Maxwell Certification Program and was recognized as a certified coach, teacher, trainer and speaker licensed to use curriculum and programs in: Becoming a Person of Influence, Everyone Communicates, Few Connect, How to be a REAL Success, Leadership Gold, Put Your Dreams to the Test, and 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.

For Patricia, nursing was much more than her job. It was her calling. Throughout her nursing career, she integrated the values of her Christian ministerial leadership into her daily work life to excel as a medical professional who remained true to the Florence Nightingale Pledge, the oath for nurses. She started her nursing career in the New Orleans area in the Oncology Department at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in Jefferson, Louisiana, and she later served as a nurse for Central Home Health in Metairie, Louisiana, and Heart of Hospice in Gretna, Louisiana.

After relocating to the Denver area, Patricia worked at the Colorado Visiting Nurse hospice, Bridges Hospice, and Mission Hospice. She proved to be extremely dedicated in providing compassionate end-of-life care, always going above and beyond for her patients and their families.

She is survived by two sons: Michael and Corey Thornton; two granddaughters, Mikyla and Naijah Thornton; a sister, Constance Alexander, Norcross, Ga; two brothers: Gerald Alexander, Bridge City, Louisiana; and Laurence Alexander (Veronica), of Flint, Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, loved ones, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Mae Dotson Alexander; her father, Garland Alexander; and a sister, Paulette A. Vann.
