Obituary of Josephine Marie Harmon

Please share a memory of Josephine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Josephine Marie Smith Harmon was born January 10, 1942, in Nashville, TN. She was the third child born to the late Nathaniel and Martha Lou Smith. She belonged to a large family with three brothers and seven sisters. Josephine was a strong woman of faith who accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She loved the Lord and was a member of Keys Chapel Methodist Church in Lexington, TN. Upon relocating to Colorado, she united with Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Aurora, CO. Josephine excelled in her studies and was a proud graduate of Montgomery High School. Shortly after graduation, she worked with Brown Shoe Company in Lexington, TN. She was a diligent worker with an artistic spirit and a personality larger than life. She had a natural talent as a hairdresser, decorating homes, and creating beautiful floral arrangements. In her efforts to maintain family unity, Josephine called several places home including Lexington and Memphis, TN., North Carolina, and Aurora, CO. In 1961 Josephine married Jerome Harmon, and to this union four sons were born. She was then joyfully blessed to have two more sons and a baby girl. Josephine was a devoted mother, sacrificing her personal needs for her children’s well-being. She loved preparing delicious home cooked meals and welcomed folks into her home with open arms, just like her own mother, the late Mama Lou. Fondly referred to as Aunt Jo, she would have everyone in stitches, laughing near tears at all the family events and gatherings. After a wonderful life full of joy and happiness, Josephine transitioned to her heavenly home on June 28, 2024. Our Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and friend will be truly missed. Josephine is preceded in death by parents: Nathaniel and Martha Lou Smith, her sons: Antwan Jerome Harmon and Gerald Wesley Harmon, her two brothers Walter R Smith and William Patrick Smith, and three sisters Kathleen Swift, Essie Moffitt, and Loisteen Smith Delk. Those left to cherish her wonderful and precious memories are two brothers: Ralph Smith of Fayetteville, NC., and Raymond (Kathy) Smith of Centennial, CO., five sisters, Zelma Yancy of California, Rosetta Craig of Linden, TN, Vivian Hart of Wildersville, TN, Gail (Charles) Hopewell, and Alice (Terry) Butler of Lexington, TN. Five children: Vincent (Colette) Harmon of Aurora, CO., Joey (Celeste) Harmon of Miami FL., Marcus Hart of Denver, CO., Marlon (Mereda) Harmon of Jackson, TN., and Pansy Hart of Thornton, CO. Ten grandchildren: Candus Hullett, Brianna (Anthony) Hawkins, Antwan Harmon Jr, Maliah Harmon, Lorenzo Harmon, Marcus Hart Jr, Eliana Nightwalker, Natalia Hart, Christopher (Morgan) Brown, and Anthony Brown.
