Roy was a cook, military policeman and demolition gunner specialist in the Army. He enjoyed serving his country, 4 years in the Army and 9 years in the Army Reserves. Roy used to sing "If This World Were Mine" to me all the time. Roy and Shirley met in 1978, at St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church. There was no courtship for 26 years, the two respected and loved each other as friends. They became united September 21, 2004. In good times and trials, their love grew strong. You see Shirley had 3 children, Carlena, Lance, and Audra, which grew up knowing Roy. His grandson was born April 19, 2006, bless his soul, June 23, 2006 Ovontay Meriwether, Roy had the opportunity of not only seeing a child born for the first time, but had the joy of cutting the umbilical cord. There was joy received from his grandchildren. There was laughter and tears these 9 years of marriage, It was all good! Roy fell ill August 12, 2013, at the Denver Veteran Medical Center. On his 9th Anniversary, family joined him at the hospital, where he smiled in his own way, and held my arm close to his body. I kissed him, and surprisingly felt the pressure of his lips kissing me back. That was a happy uplifting joyous moment. Thank GOD, for our 9th Anniversary!
