Obituary of Dorothy Lee Jiron

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Dorothy Lee Jiron on July 28, 1932 in Forest, Mississippi when she was born to proud parents, Dock and Lilly Cook. The second of three children, Dorothy had one brother, Harrison and one sister, Hattie. A loving and caring woman, Dorothy was the devoted mother of seven children, Leola, Ora, Lilly, Bobby, John, Tommy and Romona. Her grandchildren, Justin, Jarrod, John, Alisha, William, Jeremy, Tonni, Falana, DeShaun, LaTonya, Nakia, Larry, Tyree, Brooklyn and Treandre were an additional source of joy and intense pride in her life. They remember, "Granny (or Grandmother) would pack up her minivan and take all the grandkids fishing at Sloan's lake all day!" She loved them all and would do anything for them. A woman of faith, Dorothy was a member of Progressive AME Church. She was employed with and retired from Colorado University in the Dietary/Food Service Department in the position of a supervisor. Never one to sit idle, she went to work at Day One Day Care Center after retirement. She truly loved kids! In her free time, she enjoyed family and friends. "Mama Dot had many great accomplishments in her lifetime, but her pride and joy was her loving family. She loved to have family Bar-b-ques on Sundays with Jarrod, William, Alisha and Tonni, being chauffeured to Blackhawk by DeShaun, Justin and Tonya and when she didn't have a chauffeur, she enjoyed bus rides to Blackhawk with Falana and Kia. She loved receiving long distance phone calls, cards and letters from Jeremy, Little John and Larry. She loved caring for Josiah, Layla and Brooklyn and spending time with Tyree and family gatherings. Grandmother had a way with people and everyone she met, loved and adored her. She had a joyful personality and an infectious smile. She was the 'Glue' of our family and we all cherish her memories forever." The sun set on the life of Mrs. Dorothy Lee Jiron on November 5, 2013 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her parents and children, Tommy Macon and Romona Macon and sister, Hattie. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, John Henderson of Hutchison, KS and Bobby Henderson of Aurora, CO; daughters, Leola (Rhonda Banks) Gant, Ora Macon, both of Denver, CO and Lilly Macon of Aurora, CO; brother, Harrison (Freddie) Cook of Atlanta, GA; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
