Obituary of Amos Ralph Harris

Please share a memory of Amos to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mr. Amos Ralph Harris, Jr. on January 28, 1931 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas when he was born to Amos R. Harris, Sr. and Gladys Fleming. Amos had four brothers, Gerald, John, William and Henry and six sisters, Elizabeth, Gladys Sue, Vivian, Helen, Margaret and Wally Bern. A happy and curious child, Amos was always reading and busy. Educated in public schools, he graduated from high school in the Arkansas Unified School System. A Korean War Veteran, Amos proudly served his country in the United States Army from June 5, 1948 to May 15, 1952. He completed his active duty with the rank of Pvt. 2nd Class and was given an Honorable Discharge from the government and a grateful nation. Amos was united in marriage with Betty Jones in Denver, Colorado. To this union were born three children, Amos III, Bridget and Kimberly. The marriage was later dissolved. He was later united in marriage with Sylvia Fields. To this union was born one child, Misty. Additionally, he also became the father of Joshua and Tearrie. A loving father, the children remember going to the "Royal Fork" for all you can eat and going to Baby Love's house. In later years, his many grandchildren and great grandchildren were an added joy in his life. They called him "PaPa" and looked forward to being picked up at Stapleton Airport, coming for holiday visits and for summer vacation. A man of faith, Amos was a member of New Life in Christ Family Worship Center for many years. He worked with AFFES in the position of Supervisor until his retirement. He was known for hard work, dedication and being a good and caring co-worker. Amos enjoyed family and friends, going out to lunch with his co-workers and just living every day. His best friends, Otis, Bishop and Calvin will miss his kind ways and words of encouragement. His favorite colors were blue and yellow and he like Blues and Jazz. His sense of humor showed in his favorite sayings, "Don't you all forget that I eat my dinner at 6 or 6:30", "Hop back like a snake and captivate!" and "Don't work hard, son, work smart!". His love, kindness and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who were a part of Amos' life. To know him was to love him. "Daddy, we love you very much and we are going to miss you. Rest in peace." The sun set on the natural life of Mr. Amos Ralph Harris, Jr. on November 8, 2013 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and son, Amos R. Harris III. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Bridget Harris of Denver, CO, Kimberly (Aaron) Tolbert, also of Denver, CO and Misty D. Harris of Aurora, CO; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two step children; and a host of step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
