Obituary of David Lee Richardson

The sun rose on the life of Mr. David Lee Richardson,Sr. on October 26, 1940, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he was born to Otis and Willer Mae Richardson. The youngest of three children, he had one brother, Otis and one sister, Eva Mae. Educated in the public school system,David graduated from Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, California.On June 8, 1973, David was united in marriage with the love of his life, Juanita Bolden before a Justice of the Peace in Denver, Colorado. "It was very much as spontaneous and funny moment. Attire wasn't an issue.Jeans and t-shirts sufficed." The couple was blessed together with four children, Michael, Dorita, Lorre and David, Jr. The children remember, "Nothing ever got past Dad." In later years,his grandchildren, Michael Jr., Venita, Devin, Avionne and Ebone remember"Grandpa", "Papa" or "PawPaw" with great affection. David was raised in the Seventh Day Adventist Faith in Bakersfield. By profession, he was a bus driver and maintenance facility worker with the Denver Public Schools until retirement. He was known for hard work and dependability.In his free time, he enjoyed family and friends, fishing, bowling and listening to blues music. His best friends were Robert Lewis and Ronnie Fisher. Some of his favorite expressions were, "Them Broncos ain't gonna do nothing", "Mr.Smooth", "Cool" and "Don't make me go get my gun." He was known for his famous Oklahoma Red BBQ sauce which everybody loved and his beautiful carpet like lawn. His love, sense of humor and kindness will be deeply missed.To know David was to love him.The sun set on the life of Mr. David Lee Richardson, Sr. on December 24,2013 when he passed into eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Juanita E. Richardson of Denver, CO; sons, Michael Bolden of Orange County, CA and David L. Richardson, Jr. of Denver,CO; daughters, Dorita (Charles) Mingus of Las Vegas, NV and Lorre Hartdige of Denver, CO; five grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
