Obituary of Isaiah Griffin
Please share a memory of Isaiah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mr. Isaiah Griffin on June 7, 1936 in Giddings, Texas when he was born to Bell Griffin and Cecelia House. The youngest of two children, he had one brother, James. Educated in the public school system, he graduated from High School in Lexington, Texas. He continued his education at Prairie View A&M College in Prairie View, Texas where he ran track and won many trophies. On July 30, 1982, Isaiah was united in marriage with Vermadean Clark at the County Court House in Denver, Colorado. She remembers, "Isaiah was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather." He was the loving father of Lamont, Brian, Matthew, Tonya, Lillian, Pearleen, Adreatta, Edreatta and Antoinette. His grandchildren, Marvin, Ebony, Anisha, Jason, Brittney, Michael, LaTonya, April and Anette remember "Grandpa" always told them to "keep a dollar" in their pocket and how much he loved to camp and fish. A man of faith, Isaiah was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church. He was also an active member of The Fishbone Gentlemen's Domino Club. By profession an Environmental Technician, he was employed with the Fitzsimons Army Hospital for 25 years until he retired. Isaiah was a union steward for Fitzsimons for over 10 years. In his free time, he enjoyed family, friends, fishing, camping, traveling to visit family in Texas, dominoes and almost all sports, including wrestling, the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and the Denver Nuggets. His best friends were Keith Hogeland, Al Montigue and all of his friends at the domino club. "He always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell." His favorite color was black and favorite music was blues. His encouragement, wisdom and always looking for the best in everyone will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to share a part of this kind, sharp dressing man. To know Isaiah was to love him. The sun set on the life of Mr. Isaiah Griffin on April 8, 2014 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, daughters, Tonya Oats and Pearleen Adams. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Vermadean Griffin of Aurora, CO; sons, Lamont Fleming of Denver, CO, Brian (Nekita) Eppes of Gainsville, FL and Matthew Levyl of Denver, CO; daughters, Lillian Oats of Denver, CO, Adreatta (Keith) Hogeland of Aurora, CO, Edreatta (Calvin) Curvin of Denver, CO and Antoinette (Robert) Rice of Chattanooga, TN; seventeen grand-children, eighteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
