Obituary of John Henry Barnes

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mr. John Henry Barnes on January 31, 1949 in Jackson, Mississippi when he was born to Willie Barnes and Beatrice Patton Barnes. The oldest of three children John had two sisters, Vera and Jacqueline. A loving big brother, he always made sure his sisters were taken care of. He liked swimming, baseball and sports. John received his formal education in the public school system and graduated from Manual High School in Denver, Colorado. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He enlisted in 1968 and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Having completed his active duty with honor and distinction, he was given an Honorable Discharge from the Navy and a grateful nation. On October 9, 1992, John was united in marriage with the love of his life, Darlene Pullman whom he met at a softball game. The couple exchanged their vows at the Arapahoe County Courthouse in Colorado. She remembers, "John and I met 30 years ago. Our lives grew together. John and I had our ups and downs, but we stuck by each other in spite of our challenges. John was hard working and cared about his family. My love for him will never die." To this union was born one daughter, Omni. Additionally, John had one son, Jonathan from a previous relationship and he became the loving stepfather of Karmen, Dorian and Lloyd. Omni remembers watching baseball with him as a little girl, having long talks and joking around with him. His grandchildren, Naveh, Forest, Devean, Malaysia, Vonnyaye, Journey, Trinity, Tyler, Ayrn, Xavier and Tayson and great grandchildren, Ra'Myiss ad Lyrie remember watching sports on TV with him and "Grandpa" coming to their games. John was a Driver employed with Denver RTD for over 15 years. In his free time, he enjoyed baseball and watching sports. He was a loving and caring man who became more understanding as he got older as do most of us. "He most enjoyed sports and his favorite holiday was Christmas. He was like a big kid. We will miss him very much." The sun set on the life of Mr. John Henry Barnes on June 17, 2014 when he passed into eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Darlene Barnes; son, Jonathan Hayes; daughter, Omni Barnes, all of Denver, CO; sisters, Vera Barnes and Jacqueline Barnes, both of Aurora, CO; stepsons, Dorian Pullman and Lloyd Pullman, both of Denver, CO; stepdaughter, Karmen Macklin of Aurora, CO; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
