Obituary of Harrison Owens
Please share a memory of Harrison to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mr. Harrison Owens, Sr. on February 20, 1948 in Denver, Colorado when he was born to L.C. and Mamie Hickman-Owens. He was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church in Denver. Educated in the public school system, he attended Columbine, Smiley Junior High School and ultimately graduated from Manual High School with an athletic scholarship for Track and Field in 1967. Harrison briefly attended college in Greeley, CO before he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Before his departure in 1969, Harrison was united in marriage with Gloria Jones and during his deployment, they welcomed a baby girl, Shaniece "Neecy". He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany at Nelligan Air Base and wrote home often. After his Honorable Discharge, he worked for Furrs Cafeteria, Gates Rubber Company and Mesa Fiberglass. In 1973, Harrison was elated to have a son, Harrison Jr. born on his father, L.C.'s birthday. Together with Juetta Sias and Mamie Owens, he raised Little Harrison and several stepchildren. In 2002, Harrison was united in marriage with Doris Ford and the couple moved to Atlanta, Georgia. After her death in 2004, he returned to Denver. Harrison LOVED the Temptations and even tried out for the group in the '60s. He loved to sing. He loved his clothes and hats. Dressing up for an event was part of the event! Harrison made friends wherever he went and forgot NO ONE! He had an uncanny gift for remembering names and circumstances. In his final years, he resided at The Villages at Hampden in Aurora, CO, where he made many more friends. The sun set on the life of Mr. Harrison Owens, Sr. on August 5, 2014 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; son; brother, Willie Owens and companions, Juetta Sias and Mamie Owens. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Shaniece Owens; sisters, Stephanie (Johnnie) Owens-Gillespie, Mildred Owens, Clara (Ronald) Owens-Manis, Jackie (James) Reilly, Jennifer (Chris) Shrum and Julie (Steve) Crosby-Robinson; brothers, Wade Owens and Jeff Jabori-Owens; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and countless friends.
