Obituary of Cherrie Fae Dockins

Please share a memory of Cherrie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Ms. Cherrie Fae Dockins on April 6, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa when she was born to Elder Clarence and Ruth Lucas. The oldest of eight children, she had four brothers, Ahmad, Duane, Cleo and Clark and three sisters, Clarice, Collette and Cheryl. A feisty and determined child, she liked to sing and run track. She got her brothers and sisters started in sports. Educated in the public school system, Cherrie graduated from Manual High School in Denver, Colorado. Cherrie was the loving and devoted mother of three children, LeJon "Boogie", Tiffany and Kierra. They remember "Mom was a hard worker, caring but tough, had a big heart and gave her children all we needed while being a single mother." In later years, her grandchildren, Imonie, I'mya and A'Jon were an added source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her "Gammy" and recall her being funny, loving and enjoying live wrestling. A woman of faith, Cherrie was a member of Trinity Kingdom Fellowship. "No matter what was going on in her life, she knew that God would provide." She was employed with Burlington Northern Railroad for twenty-eight years where she was known for hard work and dependability. In her free time, she enjoyed family, friends, singing in church, listening to gospel music, cooking beans and neckbones and watching movies. Her best friends, Debbie Givens, Jackie Goodson, Twaia Alexander, and Sister and Elder Duffy loved her jokes, smile, singing and "telling it like it is". She hated the Broncos and loved doing the "Shocker" (her favorite wrestling move). Cherrie always encouraged others to do the right thing. She was a well respected strong person who had a giving heart. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. The sun set on the life of Ms. Cherrie Fae Dockins on July 31, 2014 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, LeJon "Boogie" Vivens of Aurora, CO; daughters, Tiffany (Ruben) Hubbard and Kierra Taylor, both of Lincoln, NE; brothers, Ahmad Lucas, Duane Lucas, Cleo "Buddy" Lucas and Clark "Chauncy" Lucas, all of Denver, CO; sisters, Clarice Taylor of Baltimore, MD, Collette Lucas and Cheryl "Lisa" Lucas, both of Denver, CO; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Rest in peace...Cherrie
