Obituary of Larry Lee Douglas

Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mr. Larry Lee Douglas "L. D." on December 15, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when he was born to O.T. Douglas and Emma Douglas. The fifth of eight children, Larry had two brothers, Jerry and Chauncey and five sisters, Betty, Anna, Thelma, Jean and Cherlene. A curious child, he always wanted to know how things worked. "He loved to cook, loved lemonade and loved to make it." Educated in the public school system, Larry graduated from Douglas High School in Oklahoma City. He continued his education at Langston University in Oklahoma and later at Emily Griffith Opportunity School in Denver, CO. He earned an Upholstery License and a Business License. Larry was first united in marriage with Carol Douglas. To this union were born four children, Kathy, Tanya, Vicki and Steve. The marriage was later dissolved. On September 27, 1980, he was united in marriage with Rene Payne in Denver, Colorado. She remembers that Henry Brown, Sr. was able to attend before he passed and gave his joyous blessing to the couple. To this union were born two children, Lerin and Brandon. A loving father, the children remember his words of wisdom, teaching them how to preserve their stuff and how to drive. His grandchildren, Johnny, Lashonda, Shae-Lon, Xavier, Addison, Josef and Nicolette and his close niece, Latosha remember that "Grandpa" or "Grandpa Dougie" was always joyous, smiling, making jokes, and watched us when we were small. "He loved gadgets and hearing about our days." In the mid 2000's Larry was reunited with Beverly Williams, his longtime loving companion. He always enjoyed time with her and her family. He was especially close to his granddaughter, Lashonda who cared for him in his last days. By profession, Larry was a shuttle driver with Enterprise Rent A Car. He worked the longest in his own upholstery shop. He was known for being fun loving, always happy and never missed work. In his free time, he enjoyed family, friends, playing on his computer, driving, talking to friends, working on his car and the Broncos. His friends loved his laughter and just being a wonderful friend. This humble, loving man who was a perfectionist in everything he did loved life and was a dedicated family man. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. To know Larry was to love him. The sun set on the life of Mr. Larry Lee "L.D." Douglas on August 1, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chauncy and his sisters. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rene Payne-Douglas; sons, Steve Douglas of Littleton, CO and Brandon Douglas of Aurora, CO; daughters, Lerin (Jalen) Wilson, Brandy Payne, both of Aurora, CO, Kathy Fair, Tanya Douglas and Vicky Douglas, all of Littleton, CO; brother, Jerry (Karen) Douglas of Oklahoma City, OK; devoted companion, Beverly Williams of Aurora, CO; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
