The sun rose on the life of Mr. Earnest Coats, Jr. (known as Jr.) on July 21, 1941 when he was born to Earnest Coats, Sr. and Wilhelmina Williams. The second of six children, Jr. had four brothers, Willie, Phillip, Dewitt and Lucious and one sister, Barbara. As a child, Jr. was always getting in trouble. "His older brother, Willie always had to fight Jr.'s battles. He was one person you couldn't pen down, he liked to travel. Out of all Mama's six kids, he was the one Mama couldn't keep up with. There was no slowing Jr. down." Educated in the public school system, Jr. graduated from Carver High School in Amarillo, Texas. Jr. was the father of one son, Earnest E. Coats. Jr. was a member of Johnson Chapel AME Church in Amarillo, TX. In keeping with his love for travel, Jr. was a professional truck driver. He drove trucks for over 26 years. He was known for dedication to his job and dependability. In his leisure time, he enjoyed family, friends and playing dominoes. His best friend was Jimmy Lee. His favorite color was blue, he liked all types of music and his favorite expressions were, "What cha want to know for?" and "Yeah, right". Jr. had an outgoing personality and was liked by everyone who met him. The sun set on the life of Mr. Earnest Coats, Jr. on August 10, 2014 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Phillip. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Wilma Nunley-Coats; son, Earnest E.
