Obituary of Joyce Ann Stewart

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Ms. Joyce Ann Stewart on December 20, 1957 in Denver, Colorado when she was born to Lee Stewart and Ida Williams-Stewart. The sixth of fourteen children, she had four brothers, James, Samuel, Jimmy and Lee and nine sisters, Betty, Sadie, Frances, Linda, Peggy, Terri, Sara, Brenda and Lisa. A quiet and happy child, she was nosy and a tattle-tale. "She would play jokes on her younger sisters and leave them in tears. Once when the neighbor had upset them, they put a water hose in their mail box while the neighbor was on vacation. They flooded their home." Educated in the public school system, she graduated from Manual High School where she was a member of the pep club. Joyce was united with Robert Lee whom she had known since middle school. To this union was born one child, Shnikia. Shnikia remembers her mother as loving, over protective, giving and caring. "I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer as a child. My mother stayed at the hospital day and night while I took chemo treatments. She nursed me back to health. She was the reason I fought hard to get well." Joyce was also the loving godmother of Rokesha Hill, Janell Wheelock, Devion Thompkins and was a strong influence in the life of Dinem Williams (brother from another mother). Her twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren lovingly called her "Gra-nana or Nana" and added much joy to her life. A woman of faith, Joyce was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Christ Jesus. Her profession was in the field of Hospitality Supervision. She was employed with the Raddison Hotel in the position of Housekeeping Supervisor where she was known for being fun, loving, loud, energetic, bossy and the life of the party. In her free time, she enjoyed family, friends, having a drink and the Broncos. Her best friends, JoAnn Johnson and Anthony Brison loved her big smile, outspoken personality and sense of humor. "She was a real fighter and fought hard to the very end. She would never say goodbye, only "See you later". A very honest, straightforward person, she was kind and generous and would help anyone. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. The sun set on the life of Ms. Joyce Ann Stewart on October 20, 2014 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved daughter, Shnikia Stewart of Denver, CO; son, Dinem Wilkins of Aurora, CO; goddaughter, Rokesha Hill of Denver, CO; father, Lee (Aberdeen) Stewart of Denver, CO; brothers, James Stewart, Samuel Johnson and Jimmy (Angela) Stewart, all of Denver, CO; sisters, Betty Eastman of Jackson, MS, Sadie (Willie) Lyons of Vicksburg, MS, Frances Stewart of Aurora, CO, Brenda Bruce, Terri Mitchell, Peggy, Lisa, Linda and Sara Stewart, all of Denver, CO; devoted companion, Anthony Brison; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
