Obituary of Earnestine Jones
Please share a memory of Earnestine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Earnestine Jones on October 20, 1941 in Karo, Illinois when she was born to Ruben Williams and Cordelia Mayfield. The fourth of ten children, she had three brothers, Ernest, Ruben, Jr. and U.T. and six sisters, Marie, Johnnie, Ruby, Mary Ann, Grace and Georgia. Educated in the public school system, she graduated from high school in Moro, Arkansas. On January 5, 1959, Earnestine was united in marriage with Henry Jones in Moro. To this union were born nine children, Cardelia, Larry, Clent, Odies, Eddie, Beverly, Erick, Gail and Debra. She was a loving and devoted mother. The children remember that she loved music, dancing and having fun. "She taught Cardelia how to drive a stick shift." In later years, her thirty grandchildren and thirty two great grandchildren remember "Grandma walking downtown to get her gyro sandwiches, sitting in the park watching us play, making us watch her daytime stories before we could watch cartoons and making us clean up before we could go outside to play." She loved them dearly. A woman of faith, Earnestine was a member of Central Baptist Church in Denver. Not employed outside her home, Earnestine spent her time taking care of her family. "She loved taking care of all the grandchildren." She enjoyed family, friends and watching daytime stories. "She didn't have just one friend, she had many. She talked to everyone." She loved hanging out, talking and having potlucks with her friends and family. Her favorite color was purple. The music she liked best was rap (Too Short and Tupac), blues and R&B. "Earnestine was a very giving person. Anything you asked for, she would give it to you. She loved to eat, cook and shop." This fun, honest, independent and happy lady was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. The sun set on the life of Mrs. Earnestine Jones on October 23, 2014 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sister, Grace, and son, Eddie. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Henry B. Jones; sons, Odistine (Patsy) Jones, Clent Jones, Larry (Pauline) Jones and Erick Jones, all of Denver, CO; daughters, Cardelia (James) Greer, Beverly Jones, Gail Jones, all of Denver, CO and Debra Jones of Thornton, CO; sisters, Marie Byars of Denver, CO, Johnnie Williams of Brinkley, AR, Ruby Young of St. Louis, MO and Georgia Williams of Chicago, IL; thirty grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
