Obituary of Charles Russell Vincent Burrell

The sun rose on the life of Mr. Charles Russell Vincent Burrell, Sr. on April 5,1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana when he was born to Susthene Burrell and Amelia Pierre. The fourth of four children, he had one brother, August and two sisters, Valrain and Camille. As a child, Charles was always very curious. One day, while swimming in the canal, one of his friends almost drowned and Charles was able to save him. Educated in the public school system, he graduated from McDonough High School. He continued his education at Dillard University where he studied for two years. "He was a star football player in high school and college." Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed in Germany and completed his active duty with the rank of Pvt. First Class. He was honored with the Occupational Medal (Germany) and was given an Honorable Discharge. On April 11, 1955, Charles was united in marriage with Loretta Davis who was his pen pal. They exchanged their vows at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in New Orleans. The couple shared many camping trips with their children. To this union were born six children, Charles, Jr. "Bud", Robin, Kenneth, Brett, Judith and Sean. The children have vivid memories of learning to drive. Charles' grandchildren, Anthony, Peter "Angelo", Angelle, August, Brittany, Justin, Soriah, Celine and Sydney they lovingly called him "Granddaddy". A man of faith, Charles was a member of Loyola Catholic Church for 45 years. He owned Chuck's Landscaping and Lawn Maintenance for 50 years. He had also owned a fish market. In his free time, he enjoyed family, friends, golfing and camping. He was known for kindness and acceptance of others. This strong, honest, fair, respected, God fearing, family oriented man and devoted father was deeply loved and will be missed. The sun set on the life of Mr. Charles Russell Vincent Burrell, Sr. on October 24, 2014 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and grandson, Anthony. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Loretta G. Burrell of Denver, CO; sons, Kenneth (Cheryl) Burrell, Brett (Aileen) Burrell, Sean Burrell, all of Denver, CO and Charles (Rachelle) Burrell of Winston Salem, NC; daughters, Robin T. Spiller of Spring, TX and Judith Craddolph of Ft. Worth, TX; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
