Please share a memory of Demetress to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Demetress Howard on January 4, 1958 in Denver, Colorado when she was born to Clarence and Annie Mae Wheeler. The third of eight children in the family, she had three brothers, Clarence, Jr., Cedric and Dale and four sisters, Annie Marie, Marilyn, Alma and Cheryl. A quiet child, she loved to read and was very educated. Educated in the public school system, Demetress graduated from Manual High School in Denver. On April 1, 1978, Demetress was united in marriage with Walter Jones. To this union was born one child, Adrienne. The marriage was later dissolved. On July 14, 1995 Demetress was united in marriage with Douglas Eugene Howard who was her neighbor. The couple loved to dance the two step, go out to dinner and sing. To this union was born one child, Deidra. She was a loving and devoted mother. Adrienne remembers her mother teaching her about football. "I hated hearing her screaming at the Broncos, plugging my ears and just waiting for the game to be over." Deidra recalled, "I remember sitting outside on the front porch eating her favorite banana popsicles. We were never able to find them again and haven't since, but I will never forget enjoying that moment with her. To her it was special and reminded her of her childhood. I loved being able to share every moment with her." In later years, her grandchildren, Detric, Alexis, Aubrenae, and Javion added much joy to her life. They lovingly called her "Grandma" and she loved them dearly. A woman of faith, Demetress was a member of Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church for many years. Later, she served as a Jehovah's Witness. She was employed with 4 Seasons Cleaners. In her free time, she enjoyed family, friends, crossword puzzles and playing bid whist and listening to music with her best friends, Karen Clark and Betty Jamison. Her love, joyful presence and kindness will be deeply missed by all. To know Demetress was to love her. The sun set on the life of Mrs. Demetress Howard on December 24, 2014 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband, Douglas E. Howard, Sr. of Denver, CO; daughters, Adrienne Smith and Deidra Howard, both of Aurora, CO; parents, Clarence and Annie Wheeler, Sr. of Denver, CO; brothers, Clarence (Peggy) Wheeler, Jr., Dale Wheeler, both of Denver, CO and Cedric (Leanna) Wheeler of Aurora, CO; sisters, Annie M.
