Obituary of John Greogory West

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Gregory West was born on February 22, 1951 to the late Ollie and Consuela West in Texas. He had one sister Betty who preceded him in death. As a child, he always admired his Dad and would follow him everywhere. After he graduated from High School in Denver, he enlisted to the United States Army where he served faithfully until he was honorably discharged from the military. He served in Vietnam as a Combat Engineer. He later met LeDora Stewart in High School and together they had one daughter, Tonya. This relationship was later dissolved and he met the former Emma Lee Sharp on one of his cab fairs and they became inseparable and married on July 1, 1993. He then became the loving father two her six children, Jessie, Calvin, Michael, Felix, Ruby and Emma. His wife Emma and his step-son Michael, preceded him in death. All the step-kids remember playing a trick on Greg because they knew he was afraid of snakes, but didn't know how afraid he was. His son Jessie, through a rubber snake on the bed where Greg and his wife were laying, Greg started jumping and screaming and trying to get out of the window with no clothes or anything. They all fell out from laughing so hard. Greg was a Cab driver for over (15) years with Yellow Cab and Zone Cab; he also worked as a manager at Wendy's. He enjoyed family gatherings and he had many friends. Sam "Chuck" and Cindy Miller were devoted friends to him and he loved them very much. He would always tell his jokes and his favorite jokes was the little dirty ones that would keep people laughing. He loved Old School, Oldies but Goodies, Blues R & B and jazz. His favorite jazz musician was Kenny G and David Sanborne. In closing, Ruby says that Gregory has been with this family for over 40 years through all the good, the bad and the very ugly. He stuck with us and we stuck with him. He and my mother had a love that was unbreakable and the relationship went through a lot and it lasted until they were separated in death and they are now together again! John Gregory West went home to eternal rest on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Tonya Woods of Denver; his step-children, Jessie (Shirley) Sharp and Ruby Sharp both of Denver; Calvin (Tammy) Brown of Commerce City, Co; Felix Sharp and Emma Hayward both of West Virginia; over (50) grandchildren, over (50) great-grandchildren of (15) great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Rest in Peace….Gregory
