Obituary of LeRoy Kenneth Washington

The sun rose on the life of Mr. LeRoy Kenneth Washington on April 19, 1946 in Pineville, Louisiana when he was born to George Washington and Mary Effie Albert Rachal. The second of three children, LeRoy had two brothers, George and Harold, one half-brother, Stephen and two half-sisters, Debra and Diedre. As a child, LeRoy was very adventurous. Excellent in math, he was also mechanically inclined. Educated in the public school system, LeRoy graduated from Peabody Senior High School in Alexandria, Louisiana. LeRoy proudly served his country in the United States Army in Korea and Vietnam. His final rank was E5 Sgt. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and a Bronze Star Commendation. Having served with honor and distinction, he was given an Honorable Discharge from the Army and a grateful nation. LeRoy was first united in marriage with Charmaine Thoms. To this union were born two children, Monique and Kierre. The marriage was later dissolved. He was united in marriage with Patsy Samuels in Aurora, Colorado. She remembers, "We loved each other so much. We loved going to the Grand Canyon and the Royal Gorge." He became the loving stepfather of Latisha and Justin. "Justin went to Grand Canyon on the train with him and Mom and wore his little six shooter and cowboy hat." His grandchildren, Charnae, Romari, Ronniesha, Ameena, twins, Jayden and Jaylen, and Jae'Sean called him "PawPaw" or "Grandpa" and loved him dearly. A man of faith, LeRoy was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church in Alexandria. He was employed with Qwest Communications in the position of a network technician for over 30 years. He was responsible for training other installers on the job. "He was a good worker who loved getting overtime on his job." In his free time, LeRoy enjoyed family, friends, talking, eating and sleeping. He loved his grandkids dearly. His best friends, Cary Goodman, Willie Newell and Henry Turner loved his laugh and sense of humor. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. To know LeRoy was to love him. The sun set on the life of Mr. LeRoy Kenneth Washington on February 12, 2015 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patsy Washington; sons, Kierre Washington and Justin Samuels, all of Aurora, CO; daughters, Monique Washington of Denver, CO and Latisha (Jonathan) Edwards of Aurora, CO; brothers, George "Pat" (Gloria) Washington of Kansas City, MO, Harold Washington of New Orleans, LA and Stephen Washington of AK; sisters, Debra Joe and Diedre, both of Alexandria, LA; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
