Obituary of Joe William Shuler

The sun rose on the life of Mr. Joe William Shuler, Jr. on February 21, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas when he was born to Joe Shuler, Sr. and Octavia Hill Shuler. Joe had seven siblings, Eddie, Willie, Allen, Victoria, Johnnie Mae, Elizabeth and Lenora. Educated in the public school system, Joe attended Grand Elementary, Carver Jr. High and Dunbar High School. At age 17, Joe enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Bliss. He was later transferred to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO where he was honorably discharged on March 31, 1963. In 1960, Joe was united in marriage with Annie Marie Roberts in Denver, CO. To this union were born five children, James, Amita, Randall, Joe, III and Geraldine. He united with Brenda Anne Evans in 1972. To this union were born two children, Kevin and Denise. He met Balenda in 1991 and was united in marriage with her in 1997. To this union was born one child, Bobby. A man of faith, Joe dedicated his life to the Lord and was baptized in 1995 at New Beginnings Baptist Church. He joined Friendship Baptist Church of Christ Jesus in 2010. Joe began his own janitorial service with his oldest son before working at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital where he retired after 20 years in the position of Supervisor in the Laundry Department. He then worked at DIA and NSA as a security guard before his final retirement. "Joe had a very strong work ethic." He loved the outdoors, especially fishing. His hobbies included playing dominoes and cards, he also loved music and dancing. Socializing with family and friends was also a favorite pastime. On March 12, 2015 the sun set on the life of Mr. Joe William Shuler, Jr. when the Lord opened the gates for him to enter eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Balenda Shuler; sons, James Terry, Kevin (Takiyah) Shuler, both of Denver, CO, Randall (Linna) Shuler of Austin, TX, Joe (Irene) Shuler III of Aurora, CO and Bobby Churchill; daughters, Anita Terry of Aurora, CO, Denise Greenup of Elgin, TX and Geraldine Shuler of Denver, CO; brothers, Eddie Tomes of Denver, CO, Willie (Karen) Charles of Burlington, NJ and Allen (Patricia) James of Macon, GA; sisters, Elizabeth Rucker of San Antonio, TX and Lenora (Robert) Anderson of Houston, TX; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Final Message: "Remember not how I left this earth, but how I walked this earth." Joe Shuler, Jr.
