Obituary of Edward Dale Sherman
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mr. Edward Dale Sherman, Sr. on August 3, 1925 in Akron, Colorado when he was born to John Sherman, Sr. and Lillie M. Baldwin. The eighth of twelve children, he had eight brothers, Cleon, Robert, James, George, Stephen, Eugene, Charles and John, Jr. and three sisters, Lillie, Carrie and Laura. As a child, Edward was a hard worker and very generous. As a young adult he worked various jobs. He purchased a black & white Schwinn bicycle and when he went into the Navy, he gave it to his brother, Charles so he could get to work at Walgreens. Educated in the public school systems of Akron and Boulder, he graduated from Boulder High School, Class of '43. After proudly serving his country in the United States Navy, Edward earned a Bachelor Degree in Sociology at the University of Colorado in Boulder. On June 26, 1993, Edward was united in marriage with Ruby Jewel Mack in Palo Alto, California. Additionally, he was the loving father of Edward, Jr., Ajamu "James", Elizabeth, Leslie, Linda, Michael, Karen "Lee" and Nicole. They remember his prayer, "Lord, be with those in need, even us! Grant the needs of your people, feed them, clothe them. Bless our children..." In later years, his grandchildren. Keaii, Jadine, Jamael, RoseMarie, Joshua, Kristofer, Chauntel, Spencer, Jett, Deshawn, Elijah, Akilah and Aiyana and many great and great great grandchildren loved their "Grandpa", "Grand Dad" or "Young Man" dearly. A man of faith, Edward was a member of St. Luke CME Church. He served the Lord and his church as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Leader and was a member of the Scholarship Committee. An Educator by profession, he was employed with the Denver Public Schools for 13 years. His last place of employment was with the City of Palo Alto. In his free time, he enjoyed family, friends, football (CU and true Broncos fan), Rockies baseball, bowling and word search puzzles. His favorite hymn was "Amazing Grace". He was dedicated to making sure everyone in his family had their education. He truly loved his family and was there for anyone when he could. He had that listening ear for anyone who needed it and a beautiful smile that could light up an entire room. To know "Ed" was to love him and he will be deeply missed. The sun set on the life of Mr. Edward D. Sherman, Sr. on June 27, 2015 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and son, Ajamu (aka James). Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ruby Sherman; children, Edward D. Sherman, Jr., Elizabeth Hightower, Leslie (Hiawatha) Clay, Linda (Roosevelt) Braxton, Michael Sherman, Karen "Lee" Sherman and Nicole Cain, brother, John Sherman, Jr.; sisters, Lillie (James) Bracken, Carrie (Burrell) Mitchell and Laura Alexander; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
