Obituary of Mother Lula Mae Beechum

Mrs. Lula Mae Rogers Beechum was the youngest of five siblings (Ada, Millie, Ezekiel and Timothy) born to the union of the late Mr. Timothy and Mrs. Callie Rogers on April 4, 1918 in Marshall, Texas. Mrs. Callie Rogers later united in marriage with Mr. Taylor after Mr. Rogers' death. All of the siblings are now deceased. Mrs. Lula Mae proved to be quite industrious and a hard worker, even as a young girl. Mother Beechum (as she is now lovingly called) soon found herself taking a leadership role in family matters. The excellency she demonstrated in her work ethic would later spill over into her life's work - the Ministry of JESUS CHRIST! Many of her family and community members found that they could "count on her". She was very neat, self-taught and a quick learner. In 1939, the lovely Lula met the handsome Mr. Ruben Beechum of DeBerry, Texas, and she alone found favor over five other women who were seeking to gain the coveted matrimonial position of "his wife". The two were married in Marshall, Texas on October 20, 1939, and to this blessed union were added four beautiful children; Ruby, Ralph, Carolyn and Linda (now deceased), who all have dedicated their lives in service to our Lord and Saviour, JESUS CHRIST! She never was swayed by the gainsayers or popular belief. She truly epitomizes the "Virtous Woman" of Proverbs 31. A woman of much wisdom, Mother Beechum's life is a fine example to all; women, men and children, of dedication and hard work, cleanliness and order, "good cooking" and generosity. You might just say, she flat had it going on! Her husband's career with the Union Pacific Railroad carried them to Salt Lake City, Utah; to Alliance, Nebraska, and finally to Denver, Colorado in 1955. After five years of marriage, their first child, Ruby, was born and the other three thereafter in Salt Lake City. All of her family, nieces and nephews loved coming to "Aunt Lula Mae's house". This was the beginning of her Godly calling, working with children and she even began her Sunday School and Sunshine Band teaching ministry at the New Hope Baptist Church here in Denver, under the pastorate of the late Dr. M. C. Williams. After Apostle Ruben Beechum suffered injury in a packing house accident, Mother Beechum became a big source of income for the Beechum family and because of her outstanding work record, it was also her credit history that stood behind the founding of THE HOUSE OF JOY MIRACLE DELIVERANCE CHURCH, INC. in October, 1965 here in the city of Denver. She was able to assist her husband in the finances through her employment at Hillfield Air Force Base, Utah, then for some 24 years in the Denver Public Schools System. Her first position was with Horace Mann Junior High and she was later promoted to Managerial Head Matron at West High School. She retired in 1982 and went full-time in Ministry at House of Joy.Mom was a mentor to the students and staff, and they were saddened to see her go. Mother Beechum's contribution to family, career and ministry are numerous, and we celebrate her great legacy today and beyond. While enjoying her retirement, Mother Beechum spent the last eight years in Atlanta, Georgia. She loved it there and made the most of her time (as always) prior to her passing. The earthly story of this beautiful virtuous woman ended on January 2, 2016 when the Lord called her to come to her eternal home. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter, Linda and all of her siblings. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Apostle Ralph (Carolyn) Beechum, Sr. of Denver, CO; daughters, Ruby Armstrong- Bey of Aurora, CO and Pastor Carolyn (Apostle Thomas) Vinson of Atlanta, GA; son-in-law, Robert Vinson of Atlanta, GA 14 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
