Obituary of Dewayne Edward Owens

Please share a memory of Dewayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mr. Dewayne Edward Owens on April 13, 1958 in Childress, Texas when he was born to Charles E. Owens and Willie Mae Owens. The second of eight children, he had three brothers, Ivory Ephram and Anthony and four sisters, Ethel, Marie, Debra and Joyce. As a child, he always played alot of sports in the neighborhood. A favorite memory was of the occasion when his mother cut a chicken up for dinner. Dewayne took the chicken and fed his dog with it. Needless to say, he got a whipping for that escapade! Educated in the public school system, Dewayne graduated from Manual High School in Denver, Colorado. Dewayne was united in marriage with Rena Gail Lacy whom he met at church. To this union were born two children, Chris and Kenya. The children remember that the last five years were wonderful and that they were truly blessed to have him in their lives after he had slowed down with his life. His grandchildren, truly loved their "Grandpa" and he had a great bond with them. A man of faith, Dewayne was a member of Park East Church of Christ for his whole life. A hard working man, Dewayne worked as a general laborer at various jobs, always working and providing for his family. In his free time, he enjoyed family, friends, singing, traveling, playing dominoes, going to Kenya's and eating. His grandchildren were his favorite! His friends and family remember him for many things, among them his always "being cool". His favorite color was blue and he most enjoyed listening to R&B and old school music. His love, energy, kindness and enjoyment of life will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to be a part of this man's life. To know Dewayne was truly to love him. The sun set on the life of Mr. Dewayne Edward Owens on May 8, 2016 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Marie and Debra. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Chris Owens and Kenya (Wardell) Moore; brothers, Ephram (Sabora) Owens, Ivory Owens and Anthony Owens; sisters, Ethel Owens and Joyce Crawford; uncle, William Brown; aunt, Hazel Cole; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Rest in peace...Dewayne
