To Robert, Thomas, Cordell & Xan (and the rest of the Peace family), I was so saddened to find out that my dear, old friend Ricky (or my 'play' brother, as he was to me) had passed. Although I had searched for him online for several years, it wasn't until this week that I found information and learned that he was deceased. I don't know whether or not you 'kids' remember me; I hung out with your dad back in the mid-70's. I ended up moving to Oakland/SF back in 1981 and I've been in CA since then. I met your Dad when we both worked for the City & County of Denver, Parks & Rec. I was only 17 and on my own. Although I thought that I was grown and independent, I was truly alone and not at all wise to the ways of the world. Maybe that's why your dad took me under his wing. I still recall the stimulating conversations that we shared on any and everything, but especially our discussions on the bible, spirituality, racism and the state of our world. Of course, we also had lots of fun and I LOVED his album collection (yeah, very old school). I spent many, many days with Ricky and recall that back then, it was nearly impossible for him to find work. But unlike some men, he used his time to keep himself fit, he cooked, kept the house immaculate and ALWAYS spent time with his children. I often heard and observed the way he encouraged each of you to be the best that you could be, to put forth your best, honest effort. He stressed education, and the positive principles of life to each of you. Although he's been gone almost two years now, I am grieving now, having just found out. On the other hand, I know that he's safe with our Lord and perhaps I will see him again in the not too distant future. Peaceful blessings to all of you. I am so happy to know that he kept family strong and together, and that you all have continued his legacy. With love, Teri
